Meet the Artist…

Introducing Helen Rose

My name is Helen Rose, I am a proud Aboriginal woman, my ancestors originate from the Bigambul/Jinibara/Kuku Yalanji and Ewanian Tribes. I currently live in Brisbane, Queensland. I am married with four children.

My love for traditional art has always been such a big part of my life, it’s my identity and spiritual connection to the land. My Grandmother (My Father’s Mother) is my inspiration, her artwork sparked my interest, I loved how her artwork was about Indigenous First Nations culture and how storytelling is key.

Traditional Indigenous Art is my culture, my history and my spirit that lives within me.

This painting is called “Women Fishing”

In this painting, the women are gathered by the ocean. Travelling at nearby resting areas to come together to enjoy one of life’s recreational outdoor sports, fishing.

Also depicted in this painting is the Blue Marlin and Sail Fish, both of which are trophy fish and something which most anglers strive to catch.

For me as an artist, I want to promote Aboriginal culture through art, showcase it’s beauty and how fascinating our culture truly is.

Kindest regards,

Helen R. Bool
